Do you need a Reset?

Well, election day is complete. At least the voting event is wrapped up. The hype and level of distraction over the past few months have been pretty heavy. Even if you were reasonably successful in tuning out much or some of the media, those people around you, in one form or fashion, attempted to drag you into the election dynamics.

The impact of the election will take some time to assess, but as leaders of our businesses, we need to stay focused on wrapping up 2024 and preparing for 2025. We can either dwell on what should or could have happened or get back to the strategy of building your business, attracting the best possible talent, and serving your customers/clients to the greatest degree possible.

It is not that you took a vacation while the election-year hype took place, but our observation is that it has taken a partial toll on productivity. Staff might not have been directly distracted, but can you honestly assess your talent pool and say the general anxiety of this process did not impact them? Tensions were up, and they might very well still be up based on the outcome and who each person wanted to win in any given candidate race.

As the leader, it is time for you to hit the reset button!

Your actions and words are needed to place your culture, purpose, core values, and fundamental principles at the forefront of moving forward.  We have less than 40 typical work week days left in 2024.   These include many holiday distractions like parties and plenty of staff taking time off to use up personal, sick, and vacation time.  It is all par for the course at this time of year. We should not look negatively at this but should have planned for this in our efforts.

Part of leading is helping your team re-engage after intense effort. The past few months have included many such times, maybe not in the physical sense but in the mental, emotional, and social sense. If your team members were directly involved in the efforts for any number of causes or were consciously pushing away from all of it because they had enough, they used up lots of self-energy for either purpose.

Like a great coach of an athletic team, you might need to call a timeout to push the reset button for your team. Have everyone take a deep breath and refocus on the plans and strategies to accomplish the goals for 2024. Your leadership is more critical at these times than when everything is moving as planned.

This week allow yourself to hit the reset button for your team.  Have group or individual conversations to help everyone know you recognize, understand, and appreciate where they might have been and where the team needs to focus. Allow them to breathe and then get on with their contribution to the organization’s success.

It is not too late to pick up the phone and engage a Promise Guide to assist you and your organization in being the best they can be moving forward. Reach out to JKL Associates at MI (313) 527-7945 or FL (407) 984-7246. We look forward to hearing from you.
