This coming Monday is the traditional end of summer – Labor Day – and the return to business activity. Although summer does not officially end until Sep 21/22 our minds have a defined shift from vacation mode into last focus on business efforts on ending 2021 with the best possible results. As we transition from one mode of operations to the next, let us pause and reflect on the most recent efforts of the past 90 days.
In business we can sometimes get so wrapped up in pushing forward that we don’t take the time to reflect on what is working and do more of that. We also need our attention to look at what we can improve as we move forward. Business is a marathon race not a sprint. We may have times of short-term high-energy expenditures and it feels like a sprint, but we then return to a consistent pace for the long haul. As business marathon runners, we keep an eye on our statistics. At what run rate are we progressing? What are our vital signs – keeping our rhythm balanced.
As we move from summer mindset into fall business mindset, now is the time to take full advantage of the fresh restart on the business. Our teams are returning from vacations. Our clients are re-engaging their businesses. Now is the time to revisit our goals and objectives for the year. Refocus our attention on those goals which still need energy and effort and make adjustments to those which new information has presented itself and need to be altered.
Consider adopting a series of 90-day windows to review and realign your business objectives. Get an overall plan for the year, but make sure you are leading by example and doing regular alignment updates not only on business goals but on people reviews, client reviews etc.
Take the next week to invest into your business by working on the business and not just in the business.
