Next Monday we again pause the speed of business to take time to remember those who have gone before us in the effort to protect our great nation and the freedoms we enjoy. For some this is just another holiday. Businesses are not open, and people get time to be with friends and family. Some travel to weekend getaways while others work around the home getting it spring ready.
This is part of our history. Part of our nation’s best and worst times. Part of those who have sacrificed for future generations so that we can enjoy time doing what we want and with whom we choose to do it with. Over time we have less appreciation for such holidays and have placed more emphasis on events which are self-gratifying rather than thankful to our past heroes.
So, this coming holiday, however you elect to spend it, please take a moment to place the meaning of Memorial Day in your consciousness for what it truly represents. Not just time off or a reason to have a party but the real emotion behind this date on the calendar each year. It is not about self but about being selfless as those who gave all for us to have this holiday of remembrance and put us in direct touch with the freedoms we continue to enjoy.
