When we stop creating, we stop contributing

Business has been and always will be about thinking of some new way to either help solve a problem of one sort or another or to bring a pleasure to someone.  If we stop thinking about the betterment of the world in which we exist, then it would be quite boring and absent of positive energy. This thinking we do is about creating.  When we create, we give of ourselves to the world. The world receives value from our creativity.

As business leaders, we have all spent a good amount of time in reactive creativity mode over the past few months. Navigating the pandemic and positioning our business for the greatest opportunity to come out in 2021 at least in shape to move forward.  This mode of reaction to events is one form of creativity which caused us to pivot from one approach to new approaches. This same creativity which helped you through that shift is also unbelievably valuable in moving your business toward a growth mindset for the future.

Although some of our innovative energies in the past months has been driven by survival, harnessing those same innovative juices, and focusing them on the future with great insights are the makings of tomorrows new, best, greatest inventions.

Typically, innovation starts with curiosity and moves into connection with the opportunity it enhances or solves.  This in turn causes conversation and the exchange of more ideas and creativity.  As the ideas gel together into something of merit, those moments of creativity need to be tested. They are typically run through a piloting phase to prove out the best aspect of the concept and give opportunity to improve aspects which the pilot deemed not as strong. As the creativity moves forward, it begins to take on more shape and processes to allow for a consistent and stable replication of the product or service. The end result is a sustainable product or service which bring more value into the world which started with the juices of creativity.

The question this week is – does your organization have a means to cause creative juices to be engaged so that new ideas are openly presented and acted upon for the betterment of the individuals bringing them forward and the community at large? If your business has many creative insights and you act effectively upon them by sorting through the productive ideas and moving them into a process of verifying contribution, then the energy of the organization is one of innovation.  If on the other hand, your organization has a lack of ideas or new ideas are dismissed as unimportant then the culture of the organization grows in the direction of being complacent and stagnates.

In order to have a robust priority driven positive culture, creativity, innovation and the opportunity to be involved in the future of new ideas must be part of what leads and drives your organization’s success.
